Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much the definition of marriage has shifted. Historically, it was about convenience, status, and survival. Today, it’s about love—which is beautiful! But with that shift comes a massive amount of pressure.

We look at one person and expect them to be our best friend, our financial partner, our co-parent, our spiritual guide, and our entire emotional support system. That is a lot of weight for one human to carry.

It’s okay for your partner to mean the world to you, but expecting them to fulfill every single one of your needs is a recipe for burnout. True fulfillment comes when we look outside our relationships too—to our friendships, our communities, and our own passions.
